| For initial setup and testing, it is recommended that you install Kiwi Syslog Server as a Standard application. Since it runs as an interactive application it is easier to troubleshoot problems. Once you are comfortable with the setup, you can remove the Standard application and install Kiwi Syslog Server as a Service if you want to. All settings are retained between installations. These settings are identical whether you are using Kiwi Syslog Server as an interactive application or as a service. If you want to continue receiving and logging Syslog messages when you have logged out of your system, then running Kiwi Syslog Daemon as a Service would be best for your needs. If you only want to run Kiwi Syslog Server every now and then to see what is happening on your network or diagnose a fault with a network device, then installing it as a Standard application would be best for your needs. If you are using Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME then it is only possible for you to install the program as a Standard application. If you are using Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003, then you may still want to run Kiwi Syslog Server as a Standard application. Doing this offers the same features, but in single package. This makes troubleshooting any problems easier since the application runs interactively and is not having to communicate between the two parts (Service and Service Manager). Rather than logging out of the system, you can use the "lock workstation" option to secure the machine while you are away. |
