Use Kiwi SyslogGen to test your setup…

Another useful tool for testing your Kiwi Syslog Daemon setup, is Kiwi SyslogGen.

Kiwi SyslogGen is an application that allows you to send syslog messages to a specified IP address.

You can download a copy of Kiwi SyslogGen from our web site.

To test Kiwi Syslog Daemon using this tool...

Install Kiwi SyslogGen on the same system as Kiwi Syslog Daemon, and send a test message.

Once you have confirmed that Kiwi Syslog Daemon can receive syslog messages that are sent locally; try installing Kiwi SyslogGen on another remote system to see if it can receive from this location as well.

If it does not, then it may be that you have either a software firewall or anti-virus program installed that is blocking the traffic from being received.

It is recommended that you check for either of these cases, and add any exceptions as required, before starting the test again.

If these are both received, yet you are not receiving any messages from your network devices, then it is recommended that you return to the Main article and follow all of the steps provided there.
