| CatTools currently has a number of different Cisco VPN device types listed within the device type drop-down field of the device setup form.
The first Cisco VPN device type in CatTools was the Cisco.Other.VPN3000 type. The other legacy device types were created in response to customer technical support cases, where the original VPN device script with a hard-coded numbered command to show the device configuration file of 2.6.3, wouldn't work with a particular version of the Cisco VPN O/S. The Cisco.VPN device type behaves differently to the other legacy types in that it no longer issues a ‘hard-coded’ value to show the device configuration file. Instead, the Cisco.VPN device type figures out which menu item number it needs to send in order to navigate to the next level menu, by checking the menu item textual values and sending the associated number to navigate to the next level menu. Therefore, if you are adding Cisco VPN device types in CatTools, the first device type to try with your VPN would be the Cisco.VPN device type as this should work for the majority (if not all) versions of the Cisco VPN O/S. *Note: please ensure that if you are changing your existing VPN devices in CatTools from using a legacy device type to the Cisco.VPN device type, that you do not have any command typed in the ‘Use alternate command ’ field in your VPN backup activity as this will override the default navigation behavior of the Cisco.VPN device type with your hard-coded command value. Further assistance and support If you have any issues regarding the Cisco.VPN device type in CatTools, please contact technical support via the ‘Product Support Form’ found on the Support page of the Kiwi Enterprises web site. |
