I've never come across a better tool for logging, filtering, and notification as the Kiwi Syslog Daemon.

ERROR: The Kiwi CatTools service will not start

Versions affected

Kiwi CatTools prior to V2.2.x

Symptoms

Kiwi CatTools will not start as a service.
When started from the Kiwi CatTools Manager, the service status always returns to not started after a period of time.
When started from the Windows Service Manager, the Kiwi CatTools service fails to start.

Reason

You have probably set a program password in Kiwi CatTools.

When the Kiwi CatTools service starts up and a password has been set, Kiwi CatTools has to prompt for the password before it can carry on. The service may not be able to display the prompt if it cannot interact with the console. After 30 seconds the services manager assumes something is wrong with the service as Kiwi CatTools hasn't signalled that it has started and the manager terminates it.

Resolve

Remove the password from Kiwi CatTools so that the service does not have to prompt for anything at startup.
