Symptoms Setting up a folder over a mapped network drive, gives a "Permission denied" ReasonWhen running as a service, CatTools is logged in as "Local System" which allows it to interact with the desktop, but won't allow it to write to mapped drives. ResolveWe recommend replacing all mapped drive references with UNC paths to avoid the problems of mapped drives being lost when a user logs out of the machine running CatTools. However, if you want to write to a mapped drive, you must change the CatTools service Login to something like "Administrator", or a user that exists on both local and remote systems and use the same password. For example, create a CatTools user on both systems, give it full permissions (or as appropriate) and set the passwords the same.
For CatTools v3.2.19 releases and prior, unfortunately, only the Local System user allows the application to interact with the desktop. The service edition will not be visible anymore. It will still run all the scheduled tasks, but just won't be visible. To make changes to the database or setup, you will need to run the Standard edition by pressing the "Remote access" button on the Manager. This will stop the service, open the standard edition and allow you to make changes. You can even run the schedules from the standard edition while you are logged in, if you want. When you are finished making changes, simply close the Standard Edition, and restart the Service from the Manager "Start" button. |
