ERROR: Blank interface or no panes are displayed after installing or upgrading

Symptoms

After installing or upgrading CatTools, the manager interface GUI is missing all the panes (tabs).
Only the top level menu items are available and all of the pane items under the Interface > Panes menu are grayed out.

Reason

We believe this bug may be occurring as a result of changes to the third party component we use for the display graphics in the CatTools Manager GUI.
This issue seems to occur mainly when upgrading to CatTools v3.3.x from a 3.2.x version, where the third party components have been upgraded.

Resolve

We are currently working on finding a fix for this issue, however to resolve this problem for the time being, we recommend you follow the steps below depending on whether your are installing for the first time, or upgrading.

For new installations
.
If you are installing CatTools for the first time on your system and have not setup any devices or activities yet in CatTools, then the quickest way to resolve this issue is to:

  • shut down the CatTools Manager GUI.
  • locate the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file in the main CatTools install directory.
  • delete the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file.
  • restart the CatTools Manager GUI.
For upgrades or reinstalls:
If you are upgrading or reinstalling CatTools on your system (maybe uninstalling as an Application and reinstalling as the Service version) and you want to retain all your current CatTools settings (such as default email address, SMTP server settings, etc.), then you will need to delete the section within the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file that relates to the panes layout:
  • shut down the CatTools Manager GUI.
  • locate the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file in the main CatTools install directory.
  • open the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file in a text editor such as Notepad.exe and locate [Display Options] section.
  • delete the whole of the [Display Options] section to the beginning of the next […] section (if one exists).
  • save the changes and close the KiwiCatTools-Settings.ini file.
  • restart the CatTools Manager GUI.
