|
AUSTIN, TX – January 5, 2009 – SolarWinds, the leading provider of simple and powerful network management software, today announced that it has acquired the technology products of Kiwi Enterprises, a privately-held company based in New Zealand. SolarWinds will also bring on the Kiwi development team. Kiwi’s products, including the popular Kiwi Syslog Server and Kiwi CatTools, are recognized and used by thousands of network engineers around the world. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We saw a number of similarities in the products and communities of Kiwi Enterprises and SolarWinds, and expect this acquisition to generate immediate benefit, not only to our respective customer bases, but to the IT community at large,” said Michael S. Bennett, chairman and CEO, SolarWinds. “SolarWinds is committed to delivering deep value to network engineers by addressing their everyday pain, simply and affordably.”
SolarWinds will add the Kiwi products, specifically Kiwi Syslog Server and Kiwi CatTools, to its popular line-up of tools for network engineers. In addition, SolarWinds also expects to use the other software products that it purchased to expand its free tool offerings.
Kiwi Syslog Server, one of the world’s most trusted Syslog Servers, allows network engineers to: • Receive and manage syslog messages from network devices • View syslog messages in multiple windows simultaneously • Filter by host name, host IP address, priority, message text keyword or time of day • Create advanced alerts based on message content, message volume, or meta data to take actions such as email, message forwarding, audible alarms, SNMP traps, and paging • Email or graph Syslog traffic statistics for trend analysis
Kiwi CatTools is a desktop tool for configuration backup and management of network devices such as routers, switches and firewalls. With CatTools, network engineers can: • Manage configurations for network devices including routers, switches and firewalls from a Windows desktop • Schedule device configuration backups or configuration changes • Generate network device configuration reports such as Port, MAC, ARP and Version • Receive emails about configuration changes • Compare the startup and running configuration of network devices
SolarWinds will also introduce Kiwi-specific forums to their growing community site, thwack (www.thwack.com), to support knowledge-sharing among Kiwi and SolarWinds customers.
